Dr Whyte qualified in medicine in 1998 from King’s College London, having previously been awarded a Bachelor of Science degree during his studies. He undertook general and specialist training in Diabetes & Endocrinology in London, including King’s College, Guy’s Hospital and St.Thomas’ Hospitals. His PhD was awarded in 2010 for the study of insulin action in critical illness.

 

Since 2012 he has combined his clinical duties in general medicine and diabetes at King’s College Hospital, and he has received an academic promotion in summer 2021 to become a Reader at the University of Surrey.  He is a Fellow of The Royal College of Physicians and sits on the examination committee at the Royal College. He has published widely in the field of diabetes, fatty liver disease, metabolic medicine and the discipline and logic of medicine, and collaborates with scientists and clinicians across the country.

 

At King's he works within both the departments of diabetes and acute medicine, as well as working with colleagues from The Institute of Liver Studies and department of hepatology.

He particular clinical and scientific interest in understanding our metabolism makes his expert areas conditions such as type 2 diabetes, overweight and obesity, weight and/or exercise related amenorrhoea and testosterone deficiency, fertility and menstrual disorders such as polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), hypertension, dyslipidaemia/ cholesterol disorders,  NASH (non-alcohoic steatohepatitis), thyroid and parathyroid disease.
